Vietnam is among the first countries in the world to deploy 5G trials and has stayed abreast of trends in recent years to be able to further develop services in the time to come.
Its 5G network has been commercially tested by three operators - Viettel, Vinaphone, and MobiFone - in 16 cities and provinces. Speeds have reached over 1 Gbps, or ten times faster than 4G. Viettel, Vinaphone, and MobiFone have been continuing to develop infrastructure and technical systems over recent years to expand coverage and be ready to officially provide 5G this year.
5G is expected to have a major impact on the global economy, creating some $13.1 trillion in value and 2 million new jobs by 2035. According to research from the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), the contribution of 5G to Vietnam’s GDP growth is forecast at 7.34 per cent by 2025. It will be key in promoting the digital transformation process in many industries and fields in the country, especially infrastructure platforms that promote economic development.
According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long, businesses in the information and communications industry must focus on developing digital infrastructure, which is the foundation of the digital economy, digital government, and digital society.
