Fishery production reaches 5.93 million tons in first eight months, up 1.9%.

Agricultural production continued to grow in August, ensuring food supply for both domestic consumption and exports, according to the General Statistics Office.

Total fishery production was estimated at 837,400 tons, a year-on-year rise of 2 per cent. This included 584,700 tons of fish, 139,300 tons of shrimp, and 113,400 tons of other seafood.

The figure brings total production in the first eight months of the year to over 5.93 million tons, up 1.9 per cent year-on-year.

Fishery export revenue was estimated at $5.9 billion in the period, a year-on-year decline of 20 per cent. The figure is expected to hit $9 billion for the year as a whole.

Regarding rice cultivation, output from the summer-spring crop was estimated at 11 million tons, up 157,000 tons compared to the same crop last year.

Vietnam targets producing 27 million tons of rice this year, with 7.7-7.8 million tons to be exported.
