Annual CPI rises 3.15%

Vũ Khuê -

Increase partly attributed to adjustments in domestic gasoline and oil prices.

Vietnam recorded year-on-year growth of 3.15 per cent in the consumer price index (CPI) this year, an official from the General Statistics Office (GSO) has reported.

The increase is mostly due to adjustments in domestic gasoline and oil prices, which were changed 34 times and rose 28.01 per cent against 2021, while gas prices rose 11.49 per cent, GSO General Director Nguyen Thi Huong told a press briefing in Hanoi on December 29.

Rice prices fluctuated in line with export prices and market demand, rising 1.22 per cent compared to last year. Foodstuffs also increased 1.62 per cent, while housing and construction material prices climbed 3.11 per cent.

This year’s core inflation rate rose 2.59 per cent, showing that changes in consumer prices have been driven mainly by food, gasoline, and oil and gas prices, according to the GSO.
