The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport for the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport. The plan outlines the airport's development from 2021 to 2050, aiming to increase its capacity significantly.

Phu Quoc International Airport is located on the island of the same name in southern coastal Kien Giang province, a globally well-known tourist destination.

By 2030, the airport is expected to handle 10 million passengers and 25,000 tons of cargo annually. This capacity will increase to 18 million passengers and 50,000 tons of cargo by 2050.

Accordingly, the number of aircraft parking positions will grow from 30 in 2030 to 45 by 2050, accommodating large aircraft like the Boeing 747, 787, and Airbus A350.

The airport will require a total land area of 860.51 hectares for the period 2021-2030 from the existing land area of 851.67 hectares.

The expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport aligns with the Government's national airport development plan, which aims to increase the airport's capacity to 10 million passengers by 2030 and 18 million by 2050.

This expansion is crucial for supporting the socioeconomic development, national defense, and security of Kien Giang province and the growth of Vietnam's aviation industry, stated CAAV.
