Cassava export revenue expected at $2 bln by 2030

Vietnam is the second biggest cassava exporter in the world.

Vietnam targets to gain cassava export revenue of $1.8-2 billion by 2030 under the master plan on developing the cassava sector, according to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The ministry held a conference in southern Tay Ninh province on June 27 to seek ways to develop the cassava sector sustainably.

Vietnam is currently the second biggest cassava exporters in the world. The average export value in the past five years is over $1 billion, according to Deputy Director of the MARD’s Department of Plant Protection Nguyen Thi Thu Huong.

By 2050, the export turnover is expected to reach $2.3-2.5 billion.

Total cassava farming area is expected at 480,000-510,000 ha, yielding an estimated output of 11.5 - 12.5 million tons of the fresh roots by 2030.

There are 140 plants processing cassava nationwide with a total capacity of 9.3 million tons per year.
