At a formal ceremony held by the People's Committee of the central city of Da Nang on June 22, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh officially announced the Prime Minister's decision to establish the Da Nang Free Trade Zone (FTZ), the first of its kind in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1142/QĐ-TTg, dated June 13, 2025, approving the creation of the FTZ.

Spanning approximately 1,881 hectares, the FTZ comprises non-contiguous areas with specialised functional zones including production, logistics, trade and services, digital technology, information technology and innovation hubs.

The development of the FTZ will proceed according to a specific roadmap and implementation plan, with strategic investors selected to lead the development and secondary investors brought in to scale operations.

Designed to align with the development of an international financial center, the project aims to position Da Nang as a high-quality service hub, acting as a growth driver for the Central–Central Highlands region and contributing to national economic momentum. It also seeks to become a vital link connecting the East-West Economic Corridor, the Asia-Pacific region, and the global economy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh emphasised the FTZ’s symbolic importance as the first of its kind in Vietnam, highlighting its role as an important step in realising the Government's long-term vision for Da Nang.

During the ceremony, several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed between Da Nang city authorities and major domestic and international investors. These include Terne Holdings Group, One Destination, BRG Group, Imex Pan Pacific, Newtechco Group, and Saigon Da Nang Investment JSC – demonstrating widespread confidence in the FTZ's potential.
