Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has asked the Ministry of Transport to set up an interdisciplinary task force to accelerate procedures to connect Ho Chi Minh City – Moc Bai expressway of Vietnam with the Phnom Penh – Ba Vet highway of Cambodia, the Government News has reported.
In 2017, the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport and the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport signed a memorandum on connecting the two expressways.
It is aimed at facilitating road transportation between the two countries.
Cambodia began the construction of its expressway last June.
Meanwhile, the People’s Committee of HCM City has submitted to the Prime Minister for approval of the investment policy for building the HCM City – Moc Bai expressway (first phase) in the form of Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT).
Total investment capital (for the first phase) is estimated at over VND19.6 trillion ($770 million), with 49.31% to be sourced from the State budget.
The project has a total length of around 50.9 km in the first phase, connecting the southern city with Moc Bai International Border Gate in southern Tay Ninh province, which borders Cambodia.
Construction of the first phase will be divided into four sub-projects and is scheduled to start in June, 2025, and is expected for completion by 2027.
