Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, UAE, on December 1, according to a report from the Government News.
He reiterated that Vietnam treasures the comprehensive partnership and cooperation with the EU, and expressed his hope that the EU and its member states would increase assistance to Vietnam in terms of finance, technology, and human resource to cope with climate change and boost energy transition within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
He also called on the EC to consider soon removing its “yellow card” against Vietnam’s seafood exports, taking into account the country’s determination and efforts in seriously implementing the EC’s recommendations on sustainable fisheries development.
President von der Leyen, for her part, asserted that Vietnam is a crucial partner of the EU and EC, and welcomed the close coordination between two sides in realizing the JETP.
She spoke highly of Vietnam’s efforts in implementing the recommendations made by the EC to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
