Total electricity generation and import in the first six months of this year reached 151.74 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 12.4%, according to Vietnam Electricity  (EVN).

During the period, the electricity consumption across the country reached a new record of 1.02 billion kWh  per day on June 14.

The strong increase in electricity consumption was blamed for intense heat waves in June.

Regarding power supply in July, the EVN said total capacity of the whole system is estimated at over 52,000 MW. The average electricity consumption is predicted to reach 920.5 million kWh per day, up 10.15% compared to the same period last year.

EVN and relevant units began construction of 47 power projects in the period and put 57 into operation.
