Farmers in Luc Ngan district in northern Bac Giang province are enjoying a bumper lychee crop this year, which is expected to reach 98,000 tons, according to Vice Chairman of the District People’s Committee Nguyen The Thi.
Many domestic and foreign businesses have come to the district to sign contracts with farmers to buy their lychees, Mr. Thi said.
The lychee season in Luc Ngan runs from May to July.
The district has 17,000 ha of lychee this year, of which 13,500 ha apply Global Good Agricultural Practices (GlobalGAP) and Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP), meeting requirements for domestic consumption and export.
Farmers have so far sold 6,000 tons of lychees, 41 per cent of which have been exported, mainly to China.
