The technology conglomerate FPT broke ground on Digital Technology Building No. 1 on October 15, marking the first facility underway in the Digital Technology Park Urban Area across Phu Dien and Tay Tuu wards in Hanoi.
Situated on a 17,217sq.m plot, with a total gross floor area of roughly 69,831.5 sq.m, the project represents a total investment exceeding VND1.311 trillion (approx. $50.6 million).
FPT expects facilities like Digital Technology Building No. 1 to gradually transform the Tay Tuu–Phu Dien area into a technology valley that attracts top talent, fosters education and research, advances domestic and international partnerships, convenes technology firms, and incubates novel tech products—thereby enriching Hanoi’s innovation ecosystem and bolstering Vietnam’s sovereign tech capabilities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Truong Viet Dung, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee, characterized the groundbreaking as a model of collaboration between an enabling government and a pioneering corporation.
"From this moment, what the city anticipates is not merely the pace of physical construction, but how swiftly this location evolves into a competitive technology hub capable of drawing top talent, mastering core technologies, and unlocking new economic value," he said.
On behalf of FPT Group, CEO Nguyen Van Khoa outlined plans to shape the site into a "living exhibition" of strategic technologies where students can learn and experiment, and where scientists, engineers, and enterprises can collaborate. Under this strategy, frontier fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other strategic technologies will not merely be showcased, but actively researched, developed, tested, and deployed within the ecosystem.
To achieve this vision, the Digital Technology Park is designed as an open innovation ecosystem bridging the state, academia, and enterprise while broadening domestic and global linkages. FPT plans to deepen cooperation with global tech leaders including NVIDIA, Samsung, and Microsoft, alongside universities, research institutes, enterprise peers, startups, and Vietnamese experts worldwide.
According to master planning documents, the entire Digital Technology Park Urban Area covers approximately 194.3 hha including a 58.5-ha concentrated digital technology zone.
