The Gia Nghia – Chon Thanh Expressway project, which aims to connect Dak Nong and other provinces in the Central Highlands with Binh Phuoc and other provinces in the Eastern region of Southern Vietnam, is set to have its project dossiers submitted for appraisal and approval in February 2025, according to Mr. Ha Sy Son, Deputy Director of the Dak Nong Department of Transportation.

If there are no changes, construction of the expressway is expected to commence no later than September 2025, with the project anticipated to be operational by 2027.

Meanwhile, Binh Phuoc province has already started construction on the Chon Thanh - Binh Duong expressway, which connects to Ho Chi Minh City. The North-South Expressway project on the western side, specifically the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh section, spans a length of 128.8 km (with 27.8 km running through Dak Nong province and the remainder through Binh Phuoc province).

Designed for speeds of 100 - 120 km/h, this expressway will significantly reduce travel time from Gia Nghia town (Dak Nong) to Ho Chi Minh City from 4-5 hours to approximately 2 hours.

The project has a preliminary total investment of more than VND25.5 trillion (over $1 billion).

The investment project for the construction of the North-South Expressway on the western side, specifically the Gia Nghia (Dak Nong) - Chon Thanh (Binh Phuoc) section, was approved by the National Assembly in June 2024.
