The Ha Giang Provincial People’s Committee has reported to the Ministry of Planning and Investment the study results of a project to build a section of an expressway connecting the northern mountainous province with neighboring Tuyen Quang province.

The 58.5-km section will run from the end of the projected Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway, the first phase of which is under construction, at Tan Quang commune, to the Thanh Thuy international border gate in Ha Giang.

In the initial phase, Ha Giang has proposed investing over VND9.86 trillion ($402 million) in building a 39.44-km section.

The expressway section will have four lanes, allowing for a maximum speed of 100 kph, with some sections passing through difficult terrains having a maximum speed of 80 kph.

The project is scheduled for implementation in 2026-2028.

In January 2023, the provincial People’s Committee proposed that the Prime Minister consider adding the project to the national road network development plan in the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050.
