The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route became one of the world’s four busiest domestic air routes in 2023, with a total of over 9 million passengers carried, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
The figure accounts for 22 per cent of the country’s total passengers on domestic flights.
There were a total of 43,000 flights conducted on the route, accounting for 17.5 per cent of all domestic flights.
Vietnam’s aviation industry has shown signs of strong recovery this year.
Local airlines carried 74 million passengers, up 34.5 per cent compared to 2022 and equal to nearly 94 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.
Of these, 32 million were foreigners, an increase of 1.7-fold against 2022 and equal to 77 per cent of the figure in pre-pandemic 2019.
The sector targets transporting 80.3 million passengers in 2024, a year-on-year rise of 7.1 per cent.
