Ho Chi Minh City has collected nearly VND3.8 trillion ($158 million) in seaport fees after nearly two years of implementation, according to the city’s Department of Transport.
The city began to officially collect fees from using infrastructure facilities and public services at seaport terminals at the beginning of April 2022.
To facilitate collections, it launched an automated fee collection system for the use of infrastructure and public services at ports.
Over 68,800 businesses are registered in the system, with an average of 2,000-3,000 businesses paying fees via the system each day.
Fees collected will be used to invest in key port connectivity projects. The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council has approved a list of 27 projects eligible to use the fees.
