January seafood export revenue up 64%

Seafood export revenue stood at nearly $750 million in January, a 64 per cent increase year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Turnover for key products rose remarkably, including tra fish, by 97 per cent, shrimp 71 per cent, tuna 57 per cent, other types of seafood 50 per cent, and octopus and squid 45 per cent.

Exports to key markets posted remarkable growth.

Japan was Vietnam’s largest market, with $130 million, a year-on-year increase of 43 per cent and accounting for 17.3 per cent of the January total.

Exports to China and Hong Kong (China) tripled those in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, exports to the US rose 63 per cent and to the EU 34 per cent.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target of seafood export value coming in at $9.5 billion in 2024.
