Japan’s JERA Power Company has led a group of foreign investors to north-central Thanh Hoa province to study and seek investment opportunities in the construction of a natural gas-fired power plant at the Nghi Son Economic Zone with estimated capital of VND138 trillion ($5.77 billion).
A joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power, JERA is the biggest power generator in Japan and has participated in many renewable energy projects throughout Asia.
The company plans to build a natural gas-fired plant and LNG offloading facilities in Vietnam.
Earlier, in February, Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee held a working session with the JERA Vietnam Ltd. Co and partners on the results of a feasibility study for the development of an LNG-to-power project at Nghi Son.
