New leader of tax department appointed

The Ministry of Finance has made a decision to appoint the Deputy General Director of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Mr. Mai Xuan Thanh, as acting General Director of the General Department of Taxation, from February 15.

Mr. Thanh, 54, has more than 30 years of experience in the sector.

He began working at Vietnam Customs in 1994 as an expert at the import and export tax collection inspection agency. He was promoted to Deputy General Director in May 2018.

The new leader is expected to direct the maintenance and expansion of the supply of e-tax services; speed up digital transformation in tax management; ensure information technology infrastructure in the use of e-invoices; and adopt measures to manage e-invoices effectively, according to Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuan.

Other key tasks include effectively implementing tax management of e-commerce, business activities, and real estate transfers.
