On the morning of March 15, together with voters nationwide, leaders of the Party and the State exercised their voting rights, casting ballots to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term.
At exactly 7:00am, voters across the country eagerly headed to over 72,000 polling stations. Previously, several polling sites conducted early voting in accordance with the law due to specific local characteristics.
In this election, nearly 79 million voters will exercise their right and obligation to vote.
Party General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission To Lam, along with a central working delegation, arrived at Polling Station No. 2 in Ba Dinh Ward, Hanoi, to cast their ballots.
Immediately after casting his ballot, General Secretary To Lam spoke with a large gathering of reporters, expressing his enthusiasm for exercising his voting rights and witnessing the high voter turnout. He noted that the election had been meticulously prepared at all stages well in advance, creating the most favorable conditions for every citizen to express their will through their ballot, regardless of the circumstances.

According to the General Secretary, this election is held following the success of the 14th National Party Congress. All guidelines, policies, orientations, visions, and development paths for the country have been clearly outlined and have received strong support from the people, officials, and Party members.
He affirmed that this is a grand festival for the nation, a direct manifestation of the people’s freedom and right to mastery in choosing those with sufficient prestige and merit to shoulder national and local responsibilities—furthering national development, ensuring sovereignty and territorial integrity, and protecting the Fatherland forever.

Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly, and Chairperson of the National Election Council Tran Thanh Man attended the opening ceremony, exercised his right to vote, and inspected election proceedings at Polling Station No. 14 in Hoc Mon Commune, Ho Chi Minh City.
According to data from the National Election Council, from a pool of 864 candidates, voters will elect 500 deputies to the 16th NA (representing a ratio of 1.73 candidates for every seat). At the provincial level, 2,552 deputies will be elected from 4,217 candidates (a ratio of 1.65 candidates per seat). For communal-level People’s Councils, voters will choose 72,611 deputies from 120,873 candidates (a ratio of 1.66 candidates per seat), as prescribed by law.
As stipulated, the election for the 16th NA and People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term will conclude at 7:00pm the same day, except in cases where an extension is permitted by law, though not exceeding 9:00pm.
