Under the National Assembly Standing Committee's Resolution No. 1365/NQ-UBTVQH15, dated January 15, 2025, the Phu My City in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau will be established on the basis of Phu My town.
The resolution will come into effect on March 1, 2025.
Accordingly, the newly established Phu My City will encompass the entire natural area of 333.02 sq.km and a population of 287,055 people from Phu My town. It will share borders with Ba Ria City, Vung Tau City, and Chau Duc District of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, Ho Chi Minh City, and nearby Dong Nai Province.
Upon its establishment, Phu My City will consist of 10 administrative units at the commune level, including seven wards: Hac Dich, My Xuan, Phu My, Phuoc Hoa, Tan Hai, Tan Hoa, and Tan Phuoc; and three communes: Chau Pha, Song Xoai, and Toc Tien.
As a result, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province will have seven administrative units at the district level, which include four districts and three cities. Additionally, the province will have 77 administrative units at the commune level, comprising 40 communes, 30 wards, and seven towns.
