The Ministry of Transport has approved a project to upgrade a 62-km section of National Highway No. 4B crossing through northern Lang Son and Quang Ninh provinces with total investment of nearly VND2.3 trillion ($97 million).

Funding for the project will come from the provincial budget and the national socio-economic recovery program.

Five new bridges will be built while nine existing bridges will be expanded.

National Highway No. 4B connects Lang Son and Quang Ninh and plays an important role in socio-economic development in the two provinces as well as in neighboring Cao Bang province. However, it is currently in a state of disrepair and fails to meet transportation needs while posing a high risk of traffic accidents.

The upgrades are aimed at facilitating the transportation of goods and boosting socio-economic development in the local region while reducing traffic congestion and accidents.
