Queensland is spotlighting its deepening economic ties with Vietnam at the Taste of Queensland Networking Reception, an event co-hosted by Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) and Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA). The gathering, held in Hanoi, featured a keynote address by Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Her Excellency Gillian Bird, and highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral trade, investment, and strategic cooperation.
Vietnam is currently Queensland’s largest export market in Southeast Asia and its sixth-largest globally. In 2024 alone, Queensland’s exports to Vietnam reached A$4.2 billion ($2.77 billion), driven by strong demand across sectors such as agrifood, energy, aviation, education, health, and tourism.
Queensland’s premium beef, live cattle, and cotton exports play a pivotal role in strengthening Vietnam’s food security and supply chains. At the same time, Vietnamese companies are ramping up investments in Queensland’s key industries — from agriculture to medical technologies. The partnership reflects a shared focus on innovation, sustainable growth, and mutual prosperity.
“Vietnamese businesses are investing in Queensland across agriculture, energy, aviation, tourism, and health,” said. Mr. Shannon Leahy, Queensland’s Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for Southeast Asia. “Companies such as TTC AgriS, Hoa Phat Group, New Techco Group, and VietJet Air are expanding their footprint, strengthening Queensland’s economy and unlocking new opportunities for both countries.”
Vietnam’s growing demand for advanced healthcare solutions has also opened doors for Queensland innovators in medical technologies, digital health, and specialized care. In education, increasing numbers of Vietnamese students are choosing Queensland as their study destination — a sign of deepening academic and research cooperation.
Ms. Ha Lan Anh, TIQ Country Director for Vietnam, emphasized the spirit of the collaboration: "Vietnam and Queensland’s partnership is built on trust, innovation, and mutual prosperity. Vietnamese investors are playing an increasingly vital role in Queensland’s economy — from agriculture to healthcare and tourism. This reception offers a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections, uncover new opportunities, and celebrate the success of this dynamic relationship.".
Guests at the event were treated to a curated tasting of Queensland’s finest food products, reflecting the state’s reputation for premium agrifood innovation. The reception also served as a valuable networking forum, bringing together industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to shape the next chapter of Queensland-Vietnam cooperation.
