Standard Chartered Bank, in cooperation with Dear Our Community (DOC) and BritCham, organized the “Sustainability Incubator with Youth” Launching Ceremony on August 4, in the presence of Graham Stuart, the UK Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, as part of his first official trip to Vietnam.

The Bank announced its sponsorship of the “Sustainability Incubator with Youth” program at the ceremony, to provide the younger workforce with practical knowledge about ESG and sustainability, which contribute to Vietnam’s green future. Through the sponsorship, Standard Chartered will offer financial support and expertise to young people to enable them to inspire and empower themselves to become sustainability leaders.

Looking to the future, young people are the key agents of change for a more sustainable future. With passion, creativity, and potential, they can make a difference in addressing the complex challenges the world faces today. In Vietnam, Standard Chartered has been supporting various initiatives that contribute to the country’s green transition, such as financing renewable energy projects, promoting green finance products, and raising awareness about climate change and sustainability among clients, employees, and communities.

Ms. Michele Wee, CEO Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam, said the Bank’s commitment to investing in the communities in which it operates is unwavering. It has committed to net zero and is dedicated to making sustainable changes and facilitating just transitions with the government and the private sector. “The program curated by Dear Our Community will empower the future leaders and grassroots of Vietnam and help accelerate progress,” she said. “We are excited to be part of the inaugural program and want to continue our support for multiple years.”

“People are key to the development of sustainable business,” said Ms. Vo Ngoc Tuyen, Founder and CEO of Dear Our Community. “Vietnamese employers struggle to find employees who are qualified to implement their sustainability goals. Dear Our Community has created the Sustainability Incubator with Youth to provide young people with the knowledge, skills, and experience that employers need as they transition to sustainable business models.”

The “Sustainability Incubator with Youth” program created by Dear Our Community provides youth with foundational tools and opportunities to learn, practice, and promote sustainability. It also empowers and equips young Vietnamese leaders with the knowledge, resources, and networks to effectively communicate the complexity of sustainability to their peers and at workplaces, and to aid in the green transition.

“Sustainability and education are key pillars for BritCham Vietnam, so I am honored to partner with the Dear Our Community for this launching ceremony, and very pleased to see one of our prominent members, Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam, sponsoring a particular initiative,” said Mr. Matt Ryland, Executive Director of BritCham Vietnam. As the UK celebrates 50 years of diplomatic relations with Vietnam, there can be no better way to do so than by looking at the next 50 years and what we can do to help the young generation maximize the opportunity they have.”
