State President Vo Van Thuong will attend the 2023 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in San Francisco from November 14-17 at the invitation of US President Joe Biden, the Government News quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as announcing on November 9.
The President’s trip to the US comes two months after Vietnam and the US upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during President Biden’s visit to Vietnam.
APEC meetings this year have focused on regional economic issues, including sustainability, digitalization, women’s economic empowerment, trade facilitation, energy security, food security, and health.
The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, the final event of the APEC Year hosted by the US, will bring economic leaders, ministers, the private sector, and other stakeholders together to engage in global challenges.
This year marks 25 years since Vietnam joined APEC, which consists of 21 member economies in the Asia-Pacific region, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the global population, nearly 50 per cent of global trade, and 60 per cent of global GDP.
