The two countries' decision to elevate their relations to a Strategic Partnership comes as a result of more than five decades of friendship and cooperation, reflecting their commitment to jointly investing in the future, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam said.

Vietnam regards Canada as a friend and a trusted partner with which it shares many common interests and strategic perspectives, said top leader To Lam.

During the meeting, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam stressed that economic, trade and investment cooperation is one of the most important pillars of bilateral relations, directly benefiting businesses and people and contributing to the development of both countries.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin agreed to study the establishment of new cooperation mechanisms and specialised working groups in various fields, and pledged to encourage businesses from both countries to expand their operations in each other’s markets.

During their talks in Hanoi on September 5, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing lauded their countries’ long-standing friendship, which have been built and nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples of both sides, and was elevated to a Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership in 2017.
