Ho Chi Minh City has authorized districts to renovate old apartments built before 1975. Figures from the city’s Department of Construction show that it has 474 old apartment blocks of such vintage, but many lack investment for renovating or rebuilding. The city aims to complete renovations this year.

Representatives from government management units in Ho Chi Minh City have made a number of recommendations on introducing an open policy for social housing to develop effectively. In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction proposed allowing the city to set up specialized businesses to invest in, develop, and manage social housing in the city.
