Many provinces and cities witnessed positive growth in tourist numbers in the first six months of the year, demonstrating a strong development of the tourism industry.
The capital city of Hanoi welcomed over 14 million tourists in the six-month period, up 13.7% year-on-year, figures from the municipal Department of Tourism show.
Total tourism revenue was estimated at over VND55.38 trillion ($2.17 billion), soaring 22.8% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City served over 19.8 million visitors. Total tourism revenue reached over VND92.64 trillion ($3.64 billion), jumping 14.6% against the same period last year.
Central Thanh Hoa province attracted nearly 9.8 million tourists, up 16.1% year-on-year. Total tourism revenue amounted to more than VND19.8 trillion ($777 million), a year-on-year growth of 30.2%.
Northern Dien Bien province served 1.368 million tourists during the period, a 2.19-fold increase compared to the same period last year. Total tourism revenue reached over VND2.47 trillion ($970 million), a 2.26-fold surge year-on-year.
Over 4.1 million tourists visited northern mountainous Lao Cai province. Total tourism turnover was estimated at VND13.5 trillion ($530 million), up 24% against the same period last year.
