South Korea imported 3.78 million tons of wood pellets in 2022, including 2.2 million tons from Vietnam.

Around 95 per cent of its wood pellet imports were from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, according to Dr. Lee Soo Min, an expert from the National Institute of Forest Science in South Korea.

Of the three Southeast Asian countries, he said, Vietnam is an important source of wood pellets. South Korea imported 2.2 million tons from Vietnam last year, or 80 per cent of the total.

South Korea is forecast to import around 4.17 million tons of wood pellets this year.
