Alongside achieving the highest digital economy growth rate in Southeast Asia,

The number of digital enterprises operating in Vietnam has now surpassed 50,000, exceeding the government's target of 48,000.

Speaking on February 19 about the impacts of platform businesses on the economy, Ms. Nguyen Minh Thao, Head of the Business Environment and Competitiveness Research Department at the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), noted that in recent years, Vietnam has witnessed the strong emergence of many digital platform applications.

For the past two years, Vietnam has consistently been assessed by international organizations as the country with the fastest digital economy growth rate in Southeast Asia, at approximately 28% in 2022, 19% in 2023, and 22% in the first six months of 2024.

With this growth rate, Vietnam has also become a potential market for nurturing and developing digital technology enterprises.

The rapid growth in digital technology enterprises has laid the foundation for the expansion and development of digital business services, including platform services.

According to Ms. Thao, platform businesses contribute about 10% to GDP. Specifically, platform businesses in the transportation sector account for 16.8% of the value added of the platform industry, equivalent to 1.7% of the GDP in 2022.

CIEM's research results show that with an additional $1 billion increase in the final products of the platform industry, the output of the entire economy will increase by $2.754 billion, stimulating the value added of the economy by $1.1918 billion, creating 93,700 job opportunities, and increasing the income of workers by $0.7326 billion.
