Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Quoc Tri and the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Deputy Minister of Forest Service Sang-seop Lim have discussed future cooperation between the two sides, including sustainable forest management, digital transformation in forest protection and management, and the application of high technology.

At their meeting on February 6, Deputy Minister Lim said the RoK is operating a digitized forest resource management system that is updated every five years. Apart from basic information, the system also provides indexes relating to soil samples and soil temperatures for forest fire prevention and forest supervision.

The RoK has recently paid great attention to protecting forests and mitigating forest fire damage by applying modern technology in forest supervision such as drones and AI.

Deputy Minister Tri said he will assign the Vietnam Administration of Forestry to build cooperative programs between the two sides, particularly in forest protection and digital transformation.

On February 7, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee organized a ceremony to launch an afforestation campaign in the northern province’s Kim Son district.

The campaign is part of the Mangrove Restoration and Sustainable Management Project in the Red River Delta, funded by the RoK Government through the Korea Forest Service.

The five-year project has total funding of $4.39 million, with $3.79 million coming from RoK non-refundable aid. It targets 250 ha of new mangrove forests in Ninh Binh and neighboring Nam Dinh province.
