Vietnam targets reducing its poverty rate to 0.9 per cent by 2025 under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2021-2025.
The program has initially contributed to reducing poverty by 1 to 1.5 per cent each year, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs reported at a conference on November 17 to review the program’s implementation.
Implementation has focused on helping impoverished communities and people living in difficult areas access basic social services, find employment, and improve incomes and quality of life. It also aims to help areas escape extremely difficult situations, contributing to promoting sustainable socio-economic development and poverty reduction.
Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said the ministry will accelerate the disbursement of capital allocated to the program in 2023 and continue to effectively implement projects and sub-projects.
He asked localities to continue adopting related policies, resolutions, and programs on poverty reduction and prioritize resources in infrastructure development investment.
