Vietnamese rice export prices top global market

The export prices of Vietnamese rice have recorded the highest level globally since early April, surpassing those of Thailand, Pakistan, India and other major exporters, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

The country’s 5% broken rice is currently being traded at $397 per ton, which is $2, $10, and $21  per ton higher than those of Thailand, Pakistan, and India, respectively.

Mr. Do Ha Nam, VFA Chairman, said the price increase is attributed to limited supply while traditional customers still have high demand for Vietnamese rice.

In the first quarter, Vietnam exported over 2.3 million tons of rice, worth nearly $1.21 billion, up 5.82% in volume, but down 15.53% in value, as compared to the same period last year.

The average price of Vietnam's exported rice in the first quarter stood at $522 per ton, down 20.18% against Q1 2024.
