Vietnam’s 4G coverage broader than in upper-middle-income countries

Phan Anh -

The entire population is to be covered by the 4G mobile network by 2025 and the 5G network by 2030.

Vietnam’s 4G mobile broadband coverage has reached 99.8 per cent compared to 99.4 per cent in upper-middle-income countries, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said during his Q&A session at the 15th National Assembly’s ongoing sixth session on November 7.

This year, he added, the ministry found 420 areas with weak signal coverage that needs to be addressed, and it will use the Vietnam Public Utility Telecommunication Services Fund for that purpose.

Of these areas, 150 are not covered with 4G due to an absence of electricity access. Minister Hung has therefore asked Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to soon identify solutions to connect these area to the national power grid, including the use of solar power.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has targeted covering Vietnam’s entire population with the 4G mobile network by 2025 and the 5G network by 2030.
