Vietnam imported 70,915 completely-built-unit (CBU) cars in the first half of this year at a total cost of $1.65 billion, figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs reveal.
The figures represent year-on-year increases of 11.4 per cent in volume and 5.2 per cent in value.
Thailand was the biggest vehicle exporter to Vietnam, with 32,373 units worth $678.2 million, followed by Indonesia with 25,979 units worth $351.8 million and China with 5,849 valued at $224.7 million.
The three countries accounted for 90.5 per cent of the total volume.
Enterprises also imported automobile spare parts and equipment worth $2 billion in the first half, down 28 per cent year-on-year.
