Vietnam exported a record rice volume of 8.3 million tons in 2023, earning its highest revenue to date, of $4.78 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The value represents a year-on-year increase of 38.4 per cent, the Government News has reported.
Growth was attributed to a higher export price of $663 a ton on average.
Total paddy rice output was estimated at 43.5 million tons, up 1.9 per cent year-on-year.
This year, with a total cultivation area of 7.1 million ha, the agricultural sector targets a total paddy rice output of 43-43.5 million tons.
Under Vietnam’s strategy on developing rice export markets to 2030, agricultural authorities are directing localities and key rice farming areas to restructure and produce more quality grain for export and for higher added value.
