The export of fruit and vegetables earned revenue of $466 million in May, a year-on-year increase of 80.6 per cent, figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show.
This brought the total value of fruit and vegetable exports in the first five months of the year to over $1.8 billion, up 29 per cent compared to the same period last year.
China, the US, the Netherlands, and Malaysia were among the top 10 biggest markets for Vietnam. China remained the top consumer of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables with a market share of 59 per cent and value of nearly $805 million, a year-on-year rise of 30 per cent.
Secretary General of the Vietnam Fruit & Vegetables Association Dang Phuc Nguyen said the prospects for exports over the remaining months of the year will be brighter as Vietnamese farm produce is popular in many countries.
Export of fruit and vegetables for the year as a whole is expected to hit $4 billion.
