$74mln waste-to-energy plant opened in north

A waste-to-energy facility was opened in northern Bac Ninh province on January 11, the Cong Thuong (Industry and Trade) online newspaper has reported.

The T&J Green Energy Company Limited, a joint venture between Vietnam’s Thuan Thanh Environment JSC and Japan’s JFE Engineering Corporation, has total investment capital of $74 million.

Construction of the project got underway in January 2022.

It has a capacity of treating 600 tons of waste each day and generating 13.5 MW of electricity.

The facility was licensed to begin trial operations on January 8 and commercial operations from the second quarter of this year.

Deputy Chairman of the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Dao Quang Khai said the province generates around 1,200 tons of household waste each day.

It has four waste-to-energy plants, with a total capacity of treating 1,300-1,500 tons a day.
