Vietnam is accelerating the refinement of a transparent legal framework, emphasizing the protection of intellectual property rights and creating favorable conditions for high-tech enterprises to invest and operate within the country.
This message was delivered by Party General Secretary and President To Lam during a reception on May 22 for Mr. David Zapolsky, Senior Vice President, Chief Global Affairs & Legal Officer at Amazon.
The top leader affirmed that Vietnam highly values and stands ready to facilitate investment from major US high-tech corporations. He emphasized that such cooperation should be based on "harmonized interests," contributing to the development of bilateral relations and bringing practical benefits to the people and businesses of both nations.
Mr. Lam urged Amazon to further leverage its potential and positive investment results in Vietnam. He encouraged the corporation to remain a key partner in implementing Vietnam’s Resolution 57, which focuses on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Specifically, he called for meaningful contributions in data infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), and the training of high-quality human resources.
Mr. Zapolsky, for his part, expressed his confidence in Vietnam’s future, stating that the country has a potential to become a leading regional tech hub. He noted significant room for cooperation in areas where Amazon holds global strengths, including cloud computing, AI, and Big Data.
The Amazon executive reaffirmed the group’s long-term commitment to Vietnam, stating its readiness to accompany the country in developing digital infrastructure and human resources to help achieve national socio-economic development goals.
On the same day, Mr. Zapolsky held a working session with Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology (MoST) Vu Hai Quan.
During the meeting, he shared plans to deploy its low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet services and explored opportunities to expand operations. Notably, the corporation aims to position Vietnam as a manufacturing hub for specific Amazon devices destined for global export.
The minister requested that Amazon expand its investments in digital and data infrastructure, strengthen collaboration with Vietnamese tech firms, and promote technology transfer. He also emphasized the importance of developing a high-quality workforce and building a green, sustainable technology ecosystem in Vietnam.
Mr. Quan affirmed that the MoST is ready to coordinate with relevant agencies to support and facilitate Amazon’s research, investment, and production activities, including the testing of equipment in accordance with Vietnamese laws.
