Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), which manages and operates Dong Hoi Airport in central Quang Binh province, and the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) have announced they have secured the capital needed to build the T2 passenger terminal at the airport.
The investment plan is expected to be approved in October and site clearance is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2024, according to the Ministry of Transport.
The T2 terminal is designed to serve 3 million passengers a year, with total initial investment estimated at more than VND2.2 trillion ($94 million).
Capacity currently stands at 500,000 passengers a year but overloads are common as passenger numbers and cargo volumes continue to grow.
The ministry asked authorities in Quang Binh province to work closely with the Ministry of National Defense and relevant agencies to complete the necessary procedures to convert the land use purpose of a 10.6-ha plot of military-owned land at the airport to land for civil aviation.
Local authorities were also instructed to support site clearance fees for the project and to promptly carry out related procedures to create the conditions for the ACV to build the project.
