Under Decision No. 970/QD-BXD, issued recently by the Ministry of Construction, a detailed plan for development of land and water areas of the Tien Giang seaport system in the Meking Delta province of Dong Thap for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision toward 2050.
The plan outlines the development of several key areas, including the Go Cong and My Tho port terminals, alongside buoy wharves, transshipment zones, and designated areas for anchorage, waiting, and storm sheltering.
The plan sets ambitious goals to be achieved by 2030, including a capacity to handle from 5.1 to 6.6 million tons of cargo, from 3,500 to 4,700 TEUs of container cargo, and to accommodate from 49,600 to 56,300 passenger arrivals per year.
To support this, the infrastructure plan calls for a total of six port areas with 15 to 16 berths, spanning a combined length of 2,165 to 2,465 m.
The long-term vision toward 2050 projects sustained growth, with an average annual cargo increase of 5.5% to 6.1% and passenger traffic growth of 1.1% to 1.25%.
Future infrastructure development will focus on completing investment in berths that directly serve industrial facilities in the Go Cong port area, as well as developing new berths to meet rising cargo throughput demands.
