Cassava exports showing signs of recovery

Vietnam exported over 268,000 tons of cassava and cassava products in October, earning $136.49 million, figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show.

The figure was up 12.6 per cent in volume and 33 per cent in value compared to the same period last year.

The average export price in the month was $508.6 per ton, up 18.1 per cent year-on-year.

The latest figures bring total exports of cassava and cassava products in the first ten months of the year to more than 2.39 million tons, down 6.4 per cent year-on-year.

Total revenue was estimated at $1.02 billion, a year-on-year fall of 8.8 per cent.

Vietnam has 530,000 ha of cassava under cultivation with annual output of 10 million tons, according to the Vietnam Association of Cassava.

Export revenue of cassava and cassava products has increased sharply in recent times, from $950 million in 2018 to nearly $1.5 billion in 2022.

Vietnam ranks second in the world in cassava exports, following Thailand.

The country targets earning $2 billion from cassava exports by 2028 and $2.5 billion by 2050.
