Ho Chi Minh City plans to commence construction of Can Gio Bridge in June this year under the PPP model with a Build–Transfer contract, according to the municipal People’s Committee.
The Can Gio Bridge is designed to be 6.3 km long with six lanes, allowing a maximum speed of 80 kph.
The project includes a nearly 3 km main bridge crossing the Soai Rap River, directly linking Nha Be Commune with Can Gio Commune.
Total investment capital is estimated at VND13.2 trillion ($502 million).
The project aims to replace the aging Binh Khanh ferry, resolve waterway traffic bottlenecks, and unlock new development space toward the sea area.
Alongside infrastructure benefits, the Can Gio Bridge is expected to drive the growth of ecotourism, sea-reclamation urban areas, and the marine economy.
Construction is expected for completion in 2029.
