The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has asked the project management board of the Ho Chi Minh Highway to complete the necessary procedures to begin construction of the Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section this year.
The stretch from Chon Thanh in southern Binh Phuoc province to Duc Hoa in the Mekong Delta’s Long An province was approved by the MoT in late 2007 and has two lanes.
After kicking off in 2009 it was then postponed in 2011 under Government Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP on measures to control inflation and stabilize the macro-economy to ensure social welfare.
In July 2022, the MoT issued a new decision approving the investment policy for the Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section to complete unfinished construction works and connect it to the rest of the 3,167-km Ho Chi Minh Highway, which runs through 30 cities and provinces from the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang bordering China to the southernmost province of Ca Mau in the Mekong Delta.
The Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section has a length of some 73 km and total investment of VND2.29 trillion ($97 million).
Construction is expected to be completed by 2025.
