Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has asked relevant ministries, agencies, and localities to take measures to attract investment, promote transport infrastructure, and enhance intra-region connectivity to further boost the development of the central highlands region.
Chairing the first conference of the Central Highlands Coordinating Council, held in Lam Dong province on September 20, the Deputy Prime Minister also pointed to the need to foster agricultural development and effectively implement national target programs in the region.
Conference participants proposed special mechanisms and policies relating to infrastructure development, especially in transport, the forest-based economy, environmental protection, and agriculture, tourism, and human resources development in the region.
The central highlands holds strategic importance in terms of politics, economy, culture, social affairs, and national defense and security. Its per capita gross regional domestic product (GRDP) last year was eleven-fold higher than in 2002, but its economic development has not matched its potential and advantages.
The Central Highlands Coordinating Council was established under a Prime Ministerial Decision dated July 11, 2023, led by Deputy Prime Minister Quang. It is aimed at helping the Prime Minister study, direct, coordinate, and handle important matters and inter-sectoral issues on regional connectivity and sustainable development.
