Following the decline in the previous session, SJC-branded gold bar buying and selling prices at major dealers plunged further hour by hour after the market opened on July 23.
According to listed market prices, by the end of the morning session, SJC gold bar buying prices had fallen by VND7 million ($266) per tael, while selling prices dropped by VND6 million per tael compared with the closing prices on July 22. SJC gold bars were quoted at VND135 million ($5,133) – 140 million ($5,323) per tael for buying and selling, respectively.
A tael is equivalent to 37.5 grams, or roughly 1.2 ounces.
Over the two consecutive sessions of July 22-23, cumulatively buying and selling prices at other major gold dealers declined by around VND8.4 million and VND6.4 million per tael, respectively.
On the global market, gold prices had fallen nearly 0.3% to around $4,120.5 per ounce. At this level, domestic prices remained higher than global levels, with a gap of about VND7 million per tael.
