One tael equals 37.5 grams, or 1.2 ounces.

Prices in the global market jumped to $2,748 an ounce on January 22, or over VND84.2 million per tael.

At this level, gold prices in Vietnam stand at around VND3.8 million ($149) a tael higher than the global price.
