E-commerce boom fuels 30-40% annual talent demand, yet training falls short
E-commerce talent demand is surging, growing 30-40% annually.

Demand for human resources in e-commerce is growing by 30-40% annually, yet only about 30% of the current workforce has formal training. This gap creates an urgent need to develop modern, practice-oriented training programs.

At the recent workshop "Seeking Feedback for Opening an E-commerce Major – Smart Digital Commerce and Business Innovation Program," Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuan, Director of the Center for E-commerce and Digital Technology Development (eComDX) under the Agency of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade), said that e-commerce is entering a new development phase where technology is no longer a supplementary tool but has become the foundation of all operations.

The explosion of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Cloud Computing is redefining how businesses operate, from supply chain management and marketing to customer care. Notably, over two-thirds of e-commerce transactions occur on mobile devices.

Consequently, the demand for human resources in the e-commerce sector is immense.

Beyond specialized skills, according to Mr. Tuan, in a dynamic and competitive e-commerce environment, soft skills are the "key" for personnel to maximize their capabilities.

Therefore, future skill trends that students and workers need to prepare for today include the ability to work with AI to optimize processes, basic understanding of programming and API usage, omnichannel integration capabilities to synchronize customer experience, and data security expertise amidst increasingly stringent legal regulations.

"These are not just trends; they have become mandatory requirements for high-quality human resources in the digital era," Mr. Tuan said.
