FPT Long Chau, the Urgo Foundation, and the Humanitarian Blood Donation Center at the Viet Nam Red Cross Society have jointly announced the “Journey of Love - Sharing Life” blood donation project, involving the participation of the Consulate General of France in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam needs about 2 million units of blood each year for the treatment of injuries and accidents, surgeries, and for people with diseases requiring transfusions. Every two seconds there are requests relating to blood transfusion and, on average, one person in every seven entering hospital needs a transfusion. In reality, however, it is still not possible to fully meet demand in Vietnam.
To address the situation, FPT Long Chau, the Urgo Foundation, and the Viet Nam Red Cross Society joined forces to launch the “Journey of Love - Sharing Life” project, to raise awareness about the importance of blood donations in Vietnam. The partners kicked off events by encouraging officials and employees in the health sector to take part in blood donation drives and take the movement to communities around the country, helping to replenish blood supplies and support medical work.
The project is being held within the framework of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France. “Every year, blood donations change the lives of millions of patients,” said Ms. Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser, Consul General of France in Ho Chi Minh City. “That is why I welcome this France-Vietnam initiative from the Urgo Foundation, to collect more blood for treatment in Vietnam. This is a shining example of cooperation between our two countries.”
To begin the blood donation drive, FPT Long Chau, the Urgo Foundation, and the Ho Chi Minh City Humanitarian Blood Donation Center will organize blood donations with the participation of FPT employees and teams.
At the press conference announcing the drive, Ms. Nguyen Bach Diep, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors at FPT Retail and General Director of FPT Long Chau, said FPT Long Chau stands ready to cooperate to improve people’s health, and the blood donation drive is an important humanitarian effort to save lives. “At FPT Long Chau, pharmacists bring dedication and care to each person, so the pharmacy team is the pioneering volunteer force in blood donations through each precious unit of blood to save lives.”
Similarly, Mr. Pascal B. Auzière, Project Manager at the Urgo Foundation, said that the cooperation with FPT Long Chau comes from both being trusted in the hearts of Vietnamese people. The “Journey of Love - Sharing Life” project is a concrete demonstration of love for people and the responsibility of each individual and business to the community.
“Through the campaign, the Urgo Foundation wants to call on all foreign communities living and working in Vietnam to join hands to donate blood,” Mr. Auzière said.
