Authorities of northern Hai Phong city on October 16 announced the establishment of a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) covering 6,292 hectares, marking a major step toward developing a globally competitive hub for manufacturing, logistics, trade, services, high technology, and finance.

The FTZ encompasses non-contiguous sites linked to the Dinh Vu–Cat Hai Economic Zone and the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone.

It will be spread across three locations within local coastal economic zones: a nearly 3,000-ha site in the southern coastal economic zone covering Chan Hung and Hung Thang communes, a more than 1,000-ha site in the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai EZ in Dong Hai ward, and a nearly  2,300-ha plot in the Cat Hai special zone.

The FTZ will include dedicated areas for production, ports, logistics, trade, and services, all operating under non-tariff zone regulations with customs authorities ensuring inspection, supervision, and control.
