Hai Phong Port handled 8.6 million tons of cargo in August, a year-on-year increase of 12.5 per cent, according to the Hai Phong Port JSC.
Total container throughput in the Hai Phong city port reached 591,421 TEUs, up 5.4 per cent compared to the same period last year.
The company has continued to expand operations to exploit new transport routes. On August 10, its Tan Vu terminal welcomed Maersk Jabal - the largest vessel of the international container shipping company Maersk Line.
Meanwhile, Hai Phong Port is being expanded to berth larger vessels.
The Hai Phong Port JSC is investing VND6.9 trillion ($291 million) in building Container Terminals No. 3 and No. 4 at the Hai Phong International Gateway Port at Lach Huyen Port.
With a total length of 750 meters and a width of 50 meters, the two terminals will be able to berth 160 TEU (3,000 DWT) vessels. The project’s total area is 47 ha.
The two terminals are expected to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2024.
